Pandit Lachhu Maharaj ji

Pandit Lachhu Maharaj ji was born in 1907 in Lucknow. The middle son of Maharaja Kalka Prasad was Pandit Lachhu Maharaj. They were very playful in nature from childhood. Hence, the people of the house used to call him “Luchu”. His name changed to Lachhu Maharaj from the same name, while his real name was Baijnath Prasad Mishra.

Dance Training

His dance education was completed by Maharaj Bindadin, Kalka Prasad, and Acchan Maharaj. You started a dance performance from the tender age of 10. For some time he stayed with his elder brother pandit Acchan Maharaj in Rampur, Raigad, and other courts, but his health did not get rammed in the environment there, and he went to Bombay.

In the addition to the dance direction in films, “Nutan Natya Niket” started to provide dance education independently by opening an institution called “Nutan Natya Niket”. In 1972, he was appointed the director of Kathak Center Lucknow. He died on 19 July 1977. You were awarded the “President’s Medal” in 1957 AD.

Pandit Lachhu Maharaj ji was an imaginative artist. In the direction of composing modern dance-dramas in the Kathak style, he made a significant contribution in the direction of writing. Indian dance, the immortal story of Gandhi, prohibition, etc. Your dance works have become very popular at some time. You also did many experiments in traditional Kathak dance. They used to present the name of Radha-Krishna in the dance of “Dhatak Thunga”, dancing in it, and showing it in the name of Gangavaran, in the name of Hindu style.

पंडित लच्छू महाराज जी का जन्म 1907 में लखनऊ में हुआ था। महाराज कालका प्रसाद के मंझोले पुत्र पंडित लच्छू महाराज थे। ये बचपन से ही बहुत चंचल प्रकृति के थे। अत: घर के लोग इन्हे  ” लुच्चू  ” कह कर पुकारते थे । इसी लुच्चू से बिगड़कर इनका नाम लच्छू महाराज हो गया, जबकि इनका वास्तविक नाम बैजनाथप्रसाद मिश्रा था।

नृत्य प्रशिक्षण

इनकी नृत्य शिक्षा महाराज बिंदादीन , कालका प्रसाद व अच्छन महाराज द्वारा सम्पन्न हुई थी। आप 10 वर्ष की अल्पआयु  से ही नृत्य  प्रदर्शन करने लगे थे। कुछ समय तक आप अपने बड़े भाई श्री अच्छन महाराज के साथ रामपुर, रायगढ़ व अन्य दरबारों  में रहे, किन्तु वहाँ के वातावरण में उनकी तबीयत न रमी और वे  बम्बई चले गए ।

जहाँ फिल्मो में नृत्य निर्देशन के अलावा “नूतन नत्य निकेत” नाम से संस्था खोलकर स्वतंत्र रूप से नृत्य  शिक्षा प्रदान करने लगे । सन् 1972 में यह कथक  केन्द्र लखनऊ  के निर्देशक  नियुक्त हुए। वही  19 जुलाई 1977 को आपका देहवसान हुआ । आपको 1957 ई. मे “राष्ट्रपति पदक” से सम्मानित किया गया था।

पंडित लच्छू महाराज एक कल्पनाशील कलाकार थे | कथक  शैली में आधुनिक नृत्य – नाटिकाओ की रचना करने कि दिशा  मे आफ्ने महत्व पूर्ण योगदान  प्रदान किया  | भारतीय किसान , गांधी की अमर कहानी, मद्य-निषेध  आदि आपकी नृत्य – रचनाएँ किसी समय में बहुत लोकप्रिय  हुई है । परम्परागत कथक-नृत्य  में भी आपने अनेक प्रयोग किए थे | जैसे “धातक  थुंगा” आमद को नाचते हुए उसमे राधा-कृष्ण की छेड़-छाड़  या गंगावतरण का भाव दिखाना इसे वे  हिन्दू शैली के नाम से प्रस्तुत किया करते थे।
